عن المكان
Within the holy city of Mecca, the spiritual heart of the Muslim world, Masjid al Malik Abdulaziz honours the memory of King Abdulaziz ibn Abd al Rahman al Saud, may God have mercy on him, the founder of the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Although no mosque in Mecca can ever rival the incomparable sanctity of the Masjid al Haram, which shelters the Ka'bah that the Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him and his family, and his son Isma'il raised at God's command, the neighbourhood mosques of the holy city each carry their own dignity. They serve the residents of Mecca between their visits to the Haram, and they also welcome pilgrims who stay in the lodgings that spread along the ring roads and outer districts.
King Abdulaziz's life was devoted to the reunification of the Arabian Peninsula and the service of the two noble sanctuaries. From the recapture of Riyadh in 1902 through the decades that followed, he restored stability to vast territories, organised annual hajj logistics that welcomed pilgrims from every continent, and laid the foundations of the modern state that today oversees the care of the holy cities. Naming a mosque after him expresses the gratitude of the people for this long service, and reminds every worshipper that the stewardship of holy places is a trust from God that passes from generation to generation.
The building follows the modern Saudi mosque style, which blends classical Arabian simplicity with the monumental geometry developed during the great expansions of the late twentieth century. Walls of pale stone enclose a spacious prayer hall crowned by a central dome, slender minarets rise at the corners, and the mihrab is decorated with fine Qur'anic calligraphy. Generous courtyards, ablution areas, and air conditioned halls accommodate the many pilgrims who gather in Mecca from every part of the Muslim world, particularly during the seasons of umrah and hajj.
Visitors will find on this page accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at Masjid al Malik Abdulaziz in Mecca, along with its address, a location map, and notes that help pilgrims, residents of the holy city, and travellers waiting for their moment of entry into the Haram, to attend congregational worship here with deep reverence, remembering the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, who walked these same streets, climbed these same hills, and made this blessed city the qiblah of every praying heart until the final day.
